Diigo in Education
Diigo provides educators a way to curate content by using the cloud to save bookmarks individually or share with others in the cloud. Teachers can get a free account and even create class groups so that their students can also bookmark and collaborate in while researching. In this tutorial we will cover some of the Diigo Basics.
Step One ... Diigo Overview (5 minutes)
Diigo has a lot of capabilities. Take a look at this video and you can learn about all of Diigo's capabilities. This is a the big overview. It will allow you to see all of Diigo's possibilities. Please understand that this tutorial will then narrow the focus and allow you to spend time learning learning and using Diigolet. This is a great beginning tool that will allow allow you to bookmark, annotate, and post comments in the cloud. Enjoy the big picture and then get ready to narrow the focus.

Step 2 Signing Up for Diigo (10 minutes)
You first must sign up for a Diigo Account. This is a simple task and includes a visit to diigo.com. The below video will show you how to do it. It also includes how you can be sure to get a free educators account. Take a look and then sign up at

Step 3 Book Marking Information in Diigo (20 minutes)
Now that you have signed up for Diigo you will want to begin to explore the Diigo Brower. Some concepts you will need to understand include bookmarking, tags, lists, and groups.After that you will want to begin bookmarking some of the websites that you find valuable. We are going to begin with a short and easy way that will work on any browser. The video will explain how this can be done within the Diigo Program. After watching the video take sometime to explore the Diigo Website and begin to bookmark some favorites. Remember that you will be able to visit any of these sites using Diigo from just about any device from anywhere on the planet!
STEP 4 Adding and using the Diigolet App (20 minutes)
There is an application in Diigo that allows you to bookmark from what ever browser you are using. It is called Diigolet. It is easy to apply to any browser and since it is not an application it can be used regardless of your schools filtering. The Diigolet also allows you to annotate, apply sticky notes, and annotate from your browser. In this step you will find two videos. The first explains how to install Diigolet in your browser. It covers the four major browsers so watch the one that applies to your device. The second video can be watched once you install the Diigolet App. It shows you how to use the App. Please watch the first video and install the App. Next watch the second video and take some time to practice. Remember you can always rewind, stop, and play the video again... after all this is 21st century learning!
STEP 5 Workshop Time (15 minutes)
Now is an opportunity to find some great websites and begin building up your website collection of links. You may also want to take some time to practice some of those items discussed and also look for other features in the site. The Help Menu is a great place to start. Here you will find an outstanding collection of tutorials, videos, and resources. A future Part B tutorial will include Diigo Groups, searching and include students. This future Part B Tutorial will require that you have a teacher account.
